MONDAY project kickoff at otay lakes county park homework: none TUESDAY chemistry: overview of scientific process, identifying the issue and framing of hypothesis team time: 1) initial research into local water issues - as a team, generate a list of 3 issues per person on your team (9-12 in total) 2) split issues evenly amongst team members and conduct individual research to complete research organizers (one per issue) homework: 1) write 6 questions for tomorrow's guest speaker - 3 specific questions that can be answered by SDCWA and 3 general questions about water conservation and clean-up 2) finish individual research by completing one research organizer for each of your three issues 3) understanding water worksheet WEDNESDAY chemistry: 1) review hw 2) lecture notes on water cycle, solutions and polarity. 3) review steps 1 and 2 of siemens application. team time: guest speaker from san diego county water authority, teresa penunuri homework: 1) choose one of your three topics to conduct in-depth research. you will present this topic to your group members tomorrow with an overview of the topic, its impact in and related challenges to the SD and surrounding communities, and local/global significance. 2) brainstorm as many solutions as possible (a minimum of 5) for the issue you will present tomorrow. 3) read through the 2012 and 2013 high school finalist project descriptions. identify 5 seeds of inspiration for possible solutions to challenges that your group is currently researching (either 5 of the project descriptions or 5 solution ideas). 4) water cycle terms - on a separate sheet of paper, define and provide a description of how each term relates to the water cycle. be as thorough as possible in your answers. - condensation - evaporation - freshwater - groundwater - infiltration - precipitation - runoff - streamflow - sublimation - transpiration - water storage THURSDAY chemistry: review water cycle. team time: 1) individual presentations to groups on topics of focus 2) vote on your group's final issue of choice for the CTW challenge 3) brainstorm as many solutions as possible (a minimum of 5 per person) for your water issue 4) review solutions lists and vote on the solution that seems the most feasible, viable, and replicable homework: 1) study for water cycle quiz 2) work on draft for step 1 FRIDAY chemistry: water cycle quiz team time: statement of hypothesis and first draft of step 1 - background of the issue - negative effects of the problem - why did your group choose this topic? - who is impacted by this problem? - citations homework: 1) individual research on organic and inorganic water pollutants. 2) read and annotate the sample challenge application in its entirety. 3) type answers to the following questions, using professional language and proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. you will receive a project grade for this, and laszlo and I need to know what your individual vision is for your group's proposed solution.
